I started working with Native American spirituality when I was very young. In a lot of ways, it was my first spiritual path and it stays with me even today. I have long since discovered many different secrets of my spiritual life, but more recently I am finding a certain familiar connection with rediscovering these old ways.
I've known for many years that my animal totem is the Falcon, or Hawk in North America. I came to discover this through a series of meditations, paying attention to my dreams and divinations. At the time that I met my animal totem, or spirit animal, I was on an Egyptian paganism path, so I felt a strong connection to Horus, the Falcon-Headed God of the Sky. His energies resonated with me at that time in my life.
Nowadays, I have a completely take on what God is, in that I don't believe in worshiping a God so to say. I have a more animistic perspective, meaning all things have a spirit. We are all connected spiritually to all things, just as all things can be manipulated by influencing the spirit of that thing. That is a topic for another time.
I wanted to hopefully inspire you to also seek out knowing your own spirit animal, if you don't know it already. There are books you can read, oracle decks you can use, even websites with handy little quizzes that will tell you what your animal totem is.
I would advise against all of that. Instead, listen. Listen to your spirit in the quiet moments. Pay attention to your dreams. If there is an animal (other than your pet) that you feel a connection to already, find out more about that animal. When you seek knowledge of this kind, it usually comes with ease if you simply allow it.
