My Dad once told me when I was much younger that you can't change your surroundings and expect your life to get infinitely better. He said you take your baggage with you wherever you go, so you should take the time to deal with stuff in the present moment as best you can. I think I was looking to move out or make some other big life decision when he gave me that advice. And what I've come to understand in my adult life through much trial and error (builds character!) is that my Dad gave me some real sound advice. He said I had to deal with my issues now so that I could have a better life. But what I understand that to mean is that you have to Love yourself Now, no matter where you are at in your life, in your struggles, in your relationships, etc.
It is your responsibility, and no one else's, to love yourself, to accept yourself, Now. And once I realized that, my baggage got a lot less heavy. I was able to release the blockages that made certain aspects of my life unmanageable, or just plain undesirable.
I'd like to offer you a simple daily meditation to help you fall in love with yourself!
1.) Stone or Crystal: Grab yourself a piece of rose quartz, rhodonite, rhodochrosite, pink calcite, or another pink colored crystal or stone. (It is not absolutely required, but it certainly helps a whole heck of a lot!)
2.) Get a pink candle. Unscented is better if you plain on applying oils to it, but a nice light scent that makes you feel good is also a great choice.
3.) Incense adds a nice touch, but it is not necessary. If you have a nice incense that is pleasant and makes you feel good, then use it for this meditation. Otherwise, the stone and the candle are just fine.
I like to keep things simple, because when magic is simple, it's much easier to repeat on a daily basis. Getting in a routine, forming a habit to do this simple meditation each day will improve your life big time!
Simply light your candle, and incense if you have it. Pick up your stone and hold it in your hands. You should be sitting comfortably as well. Observe the beauty of the flame for a few moments, then close your eyes. Allow yourself to feel the warmth of that flame glowing in your heart. Let the warmth fill you up all over like wrapping yourself in a soft blanket from the inside. Know that this warmth is your own love and that in this moment, you are allowing yourself to feel your own love resonating all throughout your being.
Take a few deep breaths and really feel this moment. You may want to take a few moments to picture in your mind's eye how you want your life to be different, such as being in a new job or house, having a different body shape, being in a loving relationship.
The list is endless, but go with whatever comes to mind first, because that is an indication from your subconscious mind that this is what you need to focus on right now. Allow yourself to feel joy, happiness, elation, excitement, or some other strong, positive emotion while visualizing this new and improved state of being.
And when you are ready, come back to the flame, the flame that is ever burning within you. Open your eyes when you are ready and thank the candle and the stone before blowing out the flame.
By taking just a few minutes each day to allow yourself to feel the warmth of your own love, your life will improve. It takes courage to love yourself, but it is the easiest and most beneficial thing you can do for yourself. So I encourage you to try it out!
